SDL Field and Mobile — Fire Prevention Module
Overview of Fire Prevention Module in SDL Field and Mobile
The Fire Prevention module in SDL Field is used for fire inspections conducted at the unit level. From the module home screen, inspectors have access to Complaints, Calendar, Property Search, Inspections, New Inspection, Inspection Reports, Online Forms, Statutes, and Units. The shared features are covered in their own KB articles. This article covers what is specific to Fire Prevention.
Inspections
Fire Prevention inspections are performed at the unit level, meaning each inspection is tied to a specific building unit. Each inspection has four tabs: General, Violations, Attachments, and Checklists.
The General tab displays the unit the inspection is being performed on along with all inspection details including the Result type and Inspection Type. Inspectors can also generate an Inspection Certificate directly from this tab — see the section below for those steps.
The Violations tab shows any violations associated with the inspection. Tap the plus (+) icon to add a new violation. From there, the violation can be tied to a specific statute and a summons can be issued directly from the violation record if needed.
The Attachments tab allows you to attach photos to the inspection via Gallery or Camera.
The Checklists tab displays any checklists that have been created and tied to inspections in SDL Desktop.
Generating an Inspection Certificate
Inspection Certificates can be created directly from within a Fire Prevention inspection. To do so, open the inspection and navigate to the Unit section within the General tab. Tap View Certificate. If no certificate has been created yet for that unit, tap Create Certificate. Before saving, make sure the Expiration Date is set — this date will appear on the certificate itself.
Statutes
The Statutes tile in Fire Prevention pulls from the fire codes that have been uploaded into SDL Desktop. These are available for on-site reference while conducting inspections.
Units
The Units tile provides access to building unit records that contain detailed structural, safety, and compliance information. Use the search bar within the Units tile to find a unit by name or address, then tap it to open the record.
The base unit record displays the unit name, tenant information, unit owner, and responsible agent. Within each unit there are three tabs: Permits, which shows any permits associated with the unit; Compliance Items, which shows past inspections and violations; and Invoices, which shows any invoices created for the unit.
Tapping Structure within the unit record opens the full fire safety profile for the building. This is divided into six sections. General contains building-level information such as the building name, square footage, number of floors, and overall size. Physical contains construction details about the building’s physical characteristics. Preplan is used for emergency pre-planning and includes the locations of stairwells, fire escapes, and Knox boxes. Utility lists utility information for specific units where applicable. Suppression covers fire suppression equipment including extinguishers, cooking protection systems, and fire detection. Monitors contains alarm and monitoring system information.
Any updates made within the Structure section will sync back to SDL Desktop automatically when connectivity is available.
