SDL Field and Mobile — Construction Module
Overview of Construction module for SDL Field and Mobile
The Construction module in SDL Field/Mobile is primarily used for managing building permit inspections. From the module home screen, inspectors have access to Complaints, Calendar, Search, Inspections, New Inspection, Inspection Reports, Online Forms, and Permits. The shared features — Complaints, Calendar, Search, Inspections list and filtering, New Inspection, Inspection Reports, and Online Forms — are covered in their own KB articles. This article covers what is specific to Construction.
InspectionsConstruction inspections are tied to building permits. Each inspection has three tabs: General, Attachments, and Checklists.
The General tab is where most of the inspection work happens. It displays the property information, the permit number the inspection is tied to, and the subcode being inspected. From here, inspectors can set the Result and the Inspection Type, enter Findings and Comments, and review additional permit-level information. At the bottom of the General tab, inspectors can sign the inspection and generate a Tech Card or a Cut-In Card. Generating a Cut-In Card requires a signature, which can be enabled in Settings.
The Attachments tab allows inspectors to attach photos to the inspection record. Tapping Gallery lets you select an existing photo from your device, and tapping Camera lets you take a new photo on the spot.
The Checklists tab displays any checklists that have been created and tied to inspections in SDL Desktop. Tap a checklist to complete it as part of the inspection.
New InspectionWhen creating a new inspection in Construction, you will need to enter the Permit Number, Subcode Type, Inspection Type, Date, Time, and any relevant Notes. The Open on Create option is checked by default and will open the inspection automatically once it is saved.
PermitsThe Permits tile allows inspectors to look up permit details while in the field. Search by permit number or address to find a record and view its associated information.
You can also create an inspection directly from a permit by opening the permit record and tapping the + Create Inspection button. The permit number will be pre-filled on the new inspection, so you only need to complete the remaining required fields. This is a convenient way to initiate an inspection without having to enter the permit number manually from the New Inspection screen.
