How to configure or forward a printer to work with SDL Desktop

Setup differs by customer type.

On-Prem Customers

Printer issues here are uncommon as long as the local setup correctly forwards printer information into SDL. If problems occur, have the customer confirm with internal IT that this is configured correctly. In most cases, they can simply set a default printer within SDL and it will stick.

Hosted Customers

Printer settings are managed through Parallels (“SDL Hosting Client”). 1. Open the SDL Hosting Client / Parallels app. 2. Go to File > Connection Properties > Printing tab.

Settings to check:

Setting

Options / Notes

RAS Universal Printing

All (redirects every printer), Default Only (redirects only the default), or Specific Only (choose specific printers). Recommended: forward all client settings, since local printer changes then forward automatically and users may connect to different servers each session

Use Client Preferences for All Printers

Under the printer list, click Options, then select this to forward local settings (orientation, etc.) automatically

Default Printer

At the bottom of the Printing tab, click Change Default Printer Settings and confirm the correct local default. If specific printers are being forwarded (not all), the default must be one of the forwarded printers
