How does a resident submit a pet license registration or renewal through the portal?
New Registration
Pet licensing is primarily staff-managed in SDL Desktop.
Renewal via SDL Portal
Staff can push renewal requests to residents, but residents don't have to wait for that — they can also start a renewal on their own.
Staff side (Desktop): In the Active Pets data grid, staff select eligible records and click Edit > Send Portal Renewal to push renewal requests to the portal.
Resident side: two ways to start:
- Via emailed link (if the town sends one) — clicking it takes the resident straight to their town's renewal page with their pet's record already pulled up.
- Without waiting for an email — the resident goes directly to their town's portal, searches for their pet by name and address, pulls up the existing license, and begins the renewal themselves.
Either way, the resident completes the renewal and pays via MuniciPAY (if configured). Submitted renewals appear on the Desktop homepage under Online Renewals for staff to review and process.
Important Notes
- The municipality must have portal renewal enabled for pet licensing, with the renewal email template configured, for any of this to work.
- Staff can also trigger a renewal email manually via Edit > Send Renewal Email in the Active Pets grid (only sends to owners with a valid email on file).
If the municipality hasn't set up portal renewal, residents must contact the town directly. For setup help, escalate to SDL support.
