How does a resident submit a complaint or concern through the SDL Portal?

  1. Go to sdlportal.com and select your municipality.
  2. Click "Report an Issue" (or go to Request > the appropriate complaint type).
  3. You may be prompted to re-enter your password — this is expected, not an error.
  4. Select the issue type from the dropdown — use "Filter by Department" to narrow the list.
  5. Enter details — be specific about size, severity, location, and how long the issue has existed.
  6. Add a location — four options: search by property address, drop a pin for an exact location, use device location (only shown if the town has enabled it and location services are on), or submit with no location.
  7. Attach files (optional) — only appears if the town has enabled attachments for that complaint type.
  8. Review and click Submit Request — a confirmation email is sent.

Common issues

Problem Solution
"Use my location" not showing Enable device location services, and confirm the town has activated the feature
Attachment option missing Town hasn't enabled it for this complaint type — expected
Confirmation email not received Check spam; Office 365 mailboxes have a known SendGrid delivery limitation

Most complaint types require an SDL Portal account, though some towns allow anonymous submission. Account creation is free at sdlportal.com.
