How does a resident submit a complaint or concern through the SDL Portal?
- Go to sdlportal.com and select your municipality.
- Click "Report an Issue" (or go to Request > the appropriate complaint type).
- You may be prompted to re-enter your password — this is expected, not an error.
- Select the issue type from the dropdown — use "Filter by Department" to narrow the list.
- Enter details — be specific about size, severity, location, and how long the issue has existed.
- Add a location — four options: search by property address, drop a pin for an exact location, use device location (only shown if the town has enabled it and location services are on), or submit with no location.
- Attach files (optional) — only appears if the town has enabled attachments for that complaint type.
- Review and click Submit Request — a confirmation email is sent.
Tracking status: Account > My Activity > Requests.
Common issues
| Problem | Solution |
| "Use my location" not showing | Enable device location services, and confirm the town has activated the feature |
| Attachment option missing | Town hasn't enabled it for this complaint type — expected |
| Confirmation email not received | Check spam; Office 365 mailboxes have a known SendGrid delivery limitation |
Most complaint types require an SDL Portal account, though some towns allow anonymous submission. Account creation is free at sdlportal.com.
