How does a resident submit a code enforcement certificate of occupancy request?
Prerequisites
Before a resident can submit a request, the town must have certificate registration turned on for public access, and the Certificate of Occupancy type must be set up correctly in SDL.
Resident Submission Process
- The resident goes to their town's specific portal.
- Under the Certificate Type dropdown, the resident selects Certificate of Occupancy (this option only appears if the town has it configured correctly).
- The resident fills out the remaining form fields:
- Applicant role
- Property search (to identify the property the certificate is being requested for)
- Applicant information
- Requested inspection dates
- Comments/notes (optional)
- If the town requires specific supporting documents for the request, the resident must upload or provide those as instructed.
Important Notes
- Document requirements vary by town and by certificate type — residents should follow whatever documentation the town has configured as required for that specific certificate request.
- If Certificate of Occupancy doesn't appear in the dropdown, the town likely hasn't configured public access or the certificate type correctly — escalate to SDL support for setup.
