How can a resident create an SDL Portal account?
Residents can create their own SDL Portal account at www.sdlportal.com by clicking “Sign Up” in the top-right corner (or center) of the page.
Before You Start, Have Ready
- A valid email address (used for verification and portal notifications)
- A mobile phone number (if the town requires phone verification)
- Your town name
- A unique username in mind — common names like “johndoe” are often already taken, so it helps to have a backup ready
Account Creation Steps
- Go to www.sdlportal.com and click “Sign Up.”
- Fill in the form: email, username, password, first/last name, and primary town.
-
- Username/password rules: 8–50 characters, must start with a letter or number, and can only use !, @, :, or _ as special characters.
- The username cannot be changed after account creation.
- Search for the town by typing the first few letters and selecting it from the list. If it doesn’t appear, try just 3–4 letters — some towns are listed as “Twp” rather than “Township.”
- Complete the reCAPTCHA and click “Create Account.”
- Check email for a verification link and click it. If it doesn’t arrive, check spam — or try signing in, where the error message includes a link to resend it.
- If the town requires phone verification: after email verification, go to My Account → Verification tile and follow the steps to receive and enter a single-use code. Each phone number can only be linked to one account.
- Once verified, log in at www.sdlportal.com with the username or email and password.

- One account works across all SDL Portal municipalities — there’s no need for a separate account per town.
