Construction - Creating an Ongoing Location

This guide is for SDL Desktop users in the Construction module who need to manage a property with multiple, recurring applications (e.g., long-term or phased construction projects). Follow these steps when you want to set up an Ongoing Location tied to a parcel, link existing applications to it, or create new applications under it — so all related permits, inspections, invoices, and documents stay organized in one place.

1. An Ongoing Location is used to  track multiple devices or items to a single property.  Once the location is created you can add various applications and manage them from one place.  

2. To begin the process make sure that you are in the construction module. 

3. and the Construction data grid. 

4. Click on the Ongoing Location data grid.  You will see the list of ongoing locations.  


5. You can add a new location by clicking the New button.

6. Use the map search to attach the parcel data to the ongoing location. This will allow you to link all applications to the property. 

7. Choose a search criteria based on the property information you have available. 

8a. Enter the criteria and click search to view the results.

9. From the search results, Highlight the property you want to create the ongoing location for. 

10. Click OK to load the parcel information.  

11. Confirm that you want to use the owner information by Clicking Yes. 

12. Review the owner information and if it is correct, click ok.  If you have chosen the incorrect property click X to cancel and go back to the map search page. 

13. Review and update the work site location.  Use the Applicant is Owner button to update the information or enter manually.  

14. Confirm the work site and mailing information by clicking Yes. 

15. The ongoing location is now added.  If you want to search for outstanding applications that need to be linked to the property, go to the Applications tab.

16. Then click Link.

17. The address will pre populate but you can also search by Parcel or Application number.  Click Search to view the results. 

18. If your search criteria does not return any results, you can use a different criteria. 

19. Enter the new criteria and click search. 

20. The results will populate in the box below.  Check the applications that you want to link to your ongoing location.

21. Click OK to confirm.

22. Click X to exit the search screen. 

23. The applications will now display in a list under the associated application section. 

24. If an application is incorrectly linked, check the corresponding box and click Unlink . 

25. Click Yes to Confirm that you do not want the application linked.

26. If you want to create a new application click on the New button.  

27. The OnGoing application entry screen will open with parcel information and will already be linked to the Ongoing location.  

28. You can manage invoices, inspections, certificates, enter tests, violations and upload any related documents for the property. Click OK to close the Ongoing Location details.
